Paolo Coelho, the author of The Alchemist, wrote about authenticity in the first paragraph of his introduction. In particular, he wrote about the challenge of establishing himself as a writer when all the voices around him kept telling it was impossible. But Coelho followed the call of his heart. In spite of what others thoughts, became a world-renowned author whose writing has been translated into more than 80 languages and sold hundreds of millions of copies.
Essentially, his message echoes one of my core mantras: When you follow the call of your heart, you will never be lead astray.
Following Your Path
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt drawn to a unique path, but those around you discouraged you? If so, then you know how much courage it takes to pursue an idea or dream when no one around you had any faith in your decision. It’s especially difficult because humans are wired toward pack mentality, i.e., consensus. What Coelho shares through his storytelling is follow your heart’s call often means going out on your own.
And that takes courage. Lots of courage. It takes a Braveheart!
Do you feel something pulling at you? Is there a path that you’ve admired from afar but never had the courage to enter? What one thing keeps you where you are instead of where you long to be? What would it take for you to dare to be different?
