Are you feeling lost? Uncertain about where life is going? What would it take for you to believe that you are just where you need to be? You are where you are because you have something to learn about yourself. Whatever you are seeking has brought you here. Welcome.
The trick to getting yourself on the right track is to know where you want to go — what you want to experience.
Not sure?
Let me give you a helpful boost in the right direction — it’s the opposite direction of where you don’t want to be! See how easy that is?
If you know where you’re going, it doesn’t matter how you get there. In fact, you can take any number of paths, and they will all be the “right” way — just different.
In the image of my navigation system above, you can see from the spaghetti; there were a lot of overlapping roads and intersections. I became momentarily apprehensive and in doing so, missed the proper exit. No worries, though, because my navigation system immediately rerouted me. It took five extra minutes, no big deal!
Life is like that, too. Perhaps you’re job hunting and missed an opportunity because you didn’t respond quickly enough. Soon a new opportunity presents itself that you like even more. Or you’re headed to college and didn’t get into your first college of choice. But while attending your second pick, you meet the love of your life.
I’m a firm believer that there isn’t just one path, one right way, but many. You just need to know where you want to go. As for the path to getting there? It’s not what you think according to my good friend *Father Patrick O’Brien.
When we can rise every morning with a joyful heart and give of ourselves with love and charity without fail until we put ourselves to rest at the end of the day, then we are on the right path. When we can live each day as if it’s the last, giving the very best of ourselves to the world around us, then we are on the right path. When we can love and accept everyone, no matter how differently they may look or act, without judgment, then we are on the right path. When we can be gentle with ourselves and our human imperfections, choosing instead to love and forgive ourselves as we love and forgive others, then we are on the right path.

Trust me when I say, that wherever you’re headed, you’ll get there in perfect time. It may not be when everyone else gets there, but that’s okay. This is your journey, your path, and the rest is just part of the movie set.

*Father Patrick O’Brien appears in the crime novel “Truth Runs Deep” where he steps in as the parish priest when Father Stephen Mario is placed on administrative leave after the tragic murders of a parish family. He was one of my favorite characters, so charming and sincere. Read his complete guest blog post here. If you enjoy crime fiction, buy the book!
Most powerful and appreciated reminder: ” When we can be gentle with ourselves and our human imperfections, choosing instead to love and forgive ourselves as we love and forgive others, then we are on the right path.” I also like the quote which is on my website’s first page: “All who wander are not lost.” That’s me…a wandering…and a’wondering….
I love the quote on your website Lore. I’m a’wandering, too! <3
Someone once told me: “There are many different paths to get up the mountain, but the view from the top is just as beautiful no matter which path you take.”
What a great share, Barb. I love that quote! <3
Love the imagery!! Thanks, I needed this. Xoxo
I’m glad you found nourishment in my words! <3
There’s a sense of familiarity in uncertainty. I feel comfortable not having all the answers-life is our greatest teacher..
Wow! That’s super deep but now that you say it, I couldn’t agree more — familiarity in uncertainty! Thank you for the great share!
Great post Sheila! You’re right! There are many different paths and they are all right because they will all teach us something! xo
Thank you for being here, Patricia! Big hug to you! <3
