So much science demonstrates that what we think, believe, and hold as our truth impacts our physical reality. We see that with clinical trials, when individuals receiving the placebo drug often report physical reaction for which the actual trial drug was indicated. But what if we could create the same response with our minds? Imagine how helpful that could be to enhance self-care in times of the coronavirus!

The truth is, we can.

The best book I’ve ever read that speaks to the power of the mind impacting the physical body is the Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton, a former medical school professor and research scientist. In the book, Lipton refers to extensive research to prove in detail how connected the mind, body, and spirit are. He shows that signals from outside of our cells, including energetic messages emanating from our thoughts, impact our health.

Tips to Help

In this meditation, I describe how to create a cocoon of health and wellness around you to enhance feelings of physical wellbeing. This is essential during these challenging times of pandemic. More than ever, it is important to maintain a positive outlook on life.

If that’s hard for you to do, I’ve got a few tips that may help.

  • Be mindful of your thoughts. If you catch yourself thinking something negative, what can you do to shift–even just a little bit–to a better feeling thought? Once you take that baby step, do it again until you’ve stair-stepped your way to an optimistic outlook.
  • Don’t listen. If what you are hearing makes you feel worse, don’t listen. It’s important to understand what’s going on, but don’t binge-watch the news if it impacts your thoughts and feelings. Know what you need to know, then turn it off and put yourself in a positive mindset with activities that make you feel happy. And, if a family member is negative, ask them to refrain from making negative statements to you or move to another room.
  • Laugh and play. We are never too old to play, yet we often leave playfulness behind in adulthood. If you have a dog, play fetch. If you have a favorite show that makes you laugh, watch it. Imagine you are a comedian and write a bunch of jokes that are funny to you. Go through your junk drawers, the closet, or the garage and find a bunch of little nicknacks that you don’t need. Now make something with all of it. In other words, be creative. Above all be proactive in looking for what makes you feel better.
  • Be responsible. You are responsible for how you feel. If you don’t like how you feel, you must do what you can to change it. You own you.
